Blair has been living in a relatively small house with her father, since her mother died when she was 8. Ever since then, her father has been immersing himself in his own work and hasn't made much time for his daughter. As a result, Blair has spent an awful lot of time with her Aunt Athena in the recent years. Beatrice has been teaching Blair the subtle art of getting what you want when you are blessed with good looks and a brain.
Her first year at Hogwarts was mediocre at best. Unlike all of the other kids in her year, she tended to be a loner and only paired up with others for projects and classes. The one time she tried to make any friends, the moment they realized that she was more concerned with school than boys, they ditched her. Blair's aunt had cautioned her about getting involved with boys before she was ready and as the only remaining woman in her life, she wasn't about to squander good advice.
The second year was much like the first, with one exception: she finally knew her way around most of the castle. Continuing to focus on school, she made it a point to find her academic niche. Blair found that she enjoyed her Charms classes very much and that she caught on rather quickly. She pushed herself to excel and to learn more advanced charms as well as basic household charms. Learning the cleaning charm was the most useful charm she learned that year and found herself using it to clean her robes after her Herbology lessons, another class that she did very well in.
Blair spent her third year at Hogwarts determined to try and get ahead. By getting ahead, she meant to pave the path to becoming a Prefect. She pushed herself to maintain good grades, to fill her time with extra curricular activities, and to stay in all of her professors good graces. Hoping that it worked, she continued pushing herself. It was in that year that she began to notice boys; first a shy boy in her Charms class, then a bad boy in her Defense Against the Dark Arts class. That next summer was filled with pelting her aunt with questions about boys. Athena eventually gave in and taught Blair how to use the class and looks she was raised with, coupled with how to utilize her cunning and ambitious nature.
During her fourth year, Charles and his daughter lived with her aunt, Athena. Blair discovered that her father had turned to alcohol, much like he did for a few months when he lost his wife, and that he was one mean drunk. Unfortunately, Charles became more and more unhinged, eventually killing Athena and attempting to kill Blair. She ran and hid from her father in the woods in the cold and the rain for a long while before returning to the house to find the bodies of what was left of her family. She became colder after that, despite the efforts of her grandmother, Ygritte.
Acceptance Letter Response
In the early hours of the morning on April 3rd, Blair tossed and turned in her bed, unable to stay asleep. Giving up, she crawled out of bed and went down the hall to use the bathroom. She padded silently back to her room afterwards and crawled back in bed to keep warm. Her father must have forgotten to feed the wood stove that heated their small house. Blair grouched to herself about not being able to tend to the stove even though she thought she was old enough. With a start, Blair remembered that it was her birthday. Leaping to her feet, she dashed through the house trying to find her father. Charles Roberts lay sleeping peacefully until his daughter bounced on his bed enthusiastically.
"Papa! Papa! Wake up!" she cried, bouncing gleefully. "You've got to wake up, it's my birthday!"
Charles opened his eyes blearily and blinked at his daughter. He couldn't help but smile at her overjoyed expression. Sitting up in bed and yawning wide, he opened his arms for a hug. "Good morning, Blair."
Blair stopped bouncing and hugged her father tight. "Today is the day, right? I'll get it today?" she asked excitedly.
Yawning again, nodding as he did so, he peeled the child off of him and got up to tend to the stove. Blair jumped off of the bed and followed her father, pelting him with questions.
"So, when it gets here, can I send an owl to Aunt 'Thena? Can we go shopping right away? Can that be my birthday present? Papa, what if Hogwarts isn't as wicked as you said Mama said it is? What if it's complete rubbish? Can I-" she was cut off by a rapping at the kitchen window.
Charles straightened up from the wood stove and crossed to the window where a Great Horned Owl sat on the perch just outside. It held an envelope with emerald green writing on the front; Charles took the envelope from the owl, thanked him and turned to his daughter who was staring, open mouthed at the window.
"Happy birthday, sweetheart. And yes, you may owl your aunt and we can all go shopping." he said, handing her the letter. His words fell on deaf ears as Blair stood, misty eyed, holding her letter.
