Personality

Rhydian is a person whose personality can seem to shift at the drop of a hat depending on what is going on and and what the situation is. His behavior and attitude reflect whom he's in the company of as well. For instance he's normally polite and warm but in the presence of his distant father, he's usually cold and reserved.

QUIRKS:
- Sleeps with hand over his mouth: Something he's done since he was a child.
- Coffee makes him tired rather than awake.
- Scratches his left eyebrow when annoyed.
LIKES:
- Swimming (he grew up on an island, its kind of second nature)
- Potions; its fascinating as well as brilliant. He likes that there are so many uses and that it takes skill.

- Clowns; The bedroom he had as a toddler that was done up with clowns. When his father didn't want to deal with him he would lock him in his room. Since he was so small he couldn't reach the doorknob or the light switch. He would feel trapped and unable to move.

WEAKNESSES:
- Dyslexia : Slight case. He transposes numbers and confuses words such as from/form, etc.
- Colorblind: He has trouble distinguishing between certain shades and sometimes that is really really bad. Such as mixing up colored powders in potions or other such things.
- Allowing his fears and dislikes (such as dogs) to dictate how he behaves at times.

PATRONUS: Rhydian's best memory is graduating magic school and seeing the look of pride on his great aunt's face.
BOGGART: Boxfish Jellyfish
DEMENTOR: Rhydian's worst memory is when he nearly drowned as a child when he was stung by a poisonous jellyfish. It was only thanks to his accidental magic and Dodi's quick thinking that saved him.
VERITASERUM: Rhydian's biggest secret was that he went behind his great aunt's back and used the muggle way to track down his father and grandparents. He didn't like what he found and regretted ever not being content with what he had.
MIRROR OF ERISED: His greatest desire is to have a job that won't change him and allow him to be laid back and not have people harsh his mellow.

FAMILY:
Mother - Elizabeth (Eliza) Jane Howell-Banes, deceased from an inoperable brain tumor when Rhydian was just a newborn. She's only a woman in a picture as far as Rhydian is concerned. The only things he knows about her are stories his Great Aunt Dodi told him. Like the fact that she had run away from her family and an unwanted marriage she was being pressured into. She had been disowned by her parents Lexington and Victoria Howell.
Father - Andras Owen Banes, 40, Factory Worker.
He couldn't deal with having a toddler about but there was no family he could rely on as his family had been casualties in a war. The Howells would not take Rhydian stating that he was not of their family. Dodi was the one that he finally called as she was the only one from Eliza's family that kept in contact and dumped Rhydian with her and then disappeared.
Great Aunt - Dorothy (Dodi) Elizabeth Byrant-Lyndon, 92, Retired socialite.
Dodi was the one family member that Rhydian could rely on and taught him the most. She means the world to him since she was the one that practically raised him when she was able to eventually get full guardianship of him. Brought Rhydian to Hawaii where she and her husband had retired to and raised him there. Not wanting to let go of him she had him go to one of the American magic schools so he would be close by and could come home for the holidays.
PETS: Had had geckos and such when he was living in Hawaii as a child but doesn't have any since moving to the UK because he didn't want to have to subject his pets or himself to the month long quarantine.

History

Rhydian spent his toddlerhood with his father who decided that unable to take care of a child, dumped him with his maternal great aunt. Growing up in Pearl City, Honolulu, Hawaii he was pretty laid back even while having a strict upbringing and never questioned that he was lavished with love. Vacations were spent with family of his great aunt's husband so while being able to see the world, Rhydian was still somewhat sheltered. His years at one of the American schools for magically gifted individuals were nice and not filled with life or death adventures just typical crush/hearbreak/jealousy/and fist fights. He's quite proud though that he was his year's valedictorian even though it had come as a shock to both he and his aunt. Once graduated and wanting to help take care of his aging aunt whom had raised him all these years, Rhydian moved with her back to her family's ancestral home of England. So far he hasn't really seen what the draw is, preferring the warm sunny beaches and food he knows compared to the odd things he's seen so far.
